2 Reasons To Get Your Windshield Repaired As Soon As Possible

Posted on

You might think that you don't have to do much with that little crack or chip in your windshield, especially if it's not obstructing your vision. But the fact is, you really do need to get it looked and either fixed or repaired. There are a lot of reasons for you to get your cracked windshield repaired.

Safety

One big reason to get your windshield fixed is that you are going to be safer. Your windshield is a very integral part of your car. It helps to tie the frame together and keep it in its proper shape. It's also part of the safety systems of your car. So, if you are seeing damage in your windshield, then you are going to be at more risk than you would be if it were all in one piece. For example, if you were to get into an accident and you are thrown towards the windshield, if there is a crack, it is already weakened, so there is more chance that it won't do what it should and that it breaks.

Further Damage

Another issue is that your windshield is at higher risk of damage. That's because the world conspires against your windshield when there is already damage. Whenever there is a crack or chip, moisture is able to sneak into that crack or chip. You may not think that's a big deal, but it is. Since your windshield is a lamination, meaning that it's two layers of glass with an adhesive in between, that moisture can get in between the layers of glass, causing them to separate and to want to break. If the crack or chip happens in the winter, when the glass is already dealing with the cold, which could make it more brittle, that moisture can freeze and then expand. Each time the ice expands, it will push the crack or chip just a little bit wider, allowing more moisture to get into the damaged area, so on and so forth.

If you have a cracked or damaged windshield, you should get it to a professional to get it repaired as soon as possible. The nice thing is that many windshield repair companies will come out and do the repair at your home or work, so that you don't have to stress about getting your car to where they are, which can help if you have a very tight schedule.
